Statement on assessment by WEA Oversight Group of Divine Familial Terms for True Meaning and Bold Proclamation

The divine familial terms (i.e. ‘Son’ and ‘Father’) used in Al Kalima’s New Testament translation were assessed at the inaugural meeting of the Divine Familial Terms Oversight Group appointed by the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), held in Oxford, England, on 19-20 December 2014. The Oversight Group was asked to evaluate if Al Kalima’s proposed terms met the translations guidelines for Son and Father terms presented by the WEA Independent Review Panel in 2013.

The Oversight Group positively evaluated the proposed terms as consistent with the 2013 recommendations, but did not see or comment on all instances and combinations of these terms. These terms are the ones used in The Bold Proclamation of the Apostles of Christ (November 2015) and in the revised edition of The True Meaning of the Gospel published in 2016. The Oversight Group was not tasked with evaluating or approving the final translation. The Oversight Group simply endorsed specific terms used by the Al Kalima team as consistent with the 2013 recommendations.
